Explosion of colors and gawdy Mexican decor makes this place neat but hope you can "habla". Asked the waitress what the special was, because it was in Spanish, and she ever so nicely slowly explained the dish IN SPANISH! Not helpful, honey but thanks anyways.
I ordered crunchy beef tacos with Mexican rice. The rice was SO dry. The beef tacos were also dry, very bland (no seasoning in beef), Little to no lettuce, and cheese that looked like a 2-inch chunk of a soft Sargento's mozzarella snack stick jammed down in it. Was kinda gross and wasn't expecting that weird soft gummy cheese stick in the middle of my taco but hey, maybe it's a different kind of taco?.?.?.? I guess.

My date got the chicken & rice- looked disgusting. White Cheesy chicken strips over the dry Mexican Rice. I'm dry heaving thinking about the slop he ate and ruined his chances of a goodnight kiss.

Cliff Notes: Cool decor, Crappy food.

I had'nt been to a Mexican restaurant for awhile and when my Birthday rolled around felt a craving for some South of the border vittles so I browsed Yelp to see which place I would choose.
After reading all the glowing reviews for El Guerrero I decided I would go check it out.
So,my wife, son and I made our way there and we were seated by a mature lady who walked away without speaking. The place was not crowded at all, with maybe six tables occupied.
After waiting for almost ten minutes, and watching the lady wander around for awhile I decided to flag her down to get things rolling.I waved at her and she waved back which made us laugh and finally she strolled over and I asked her if we could start ordering drinks and she did a hand sign thing and walked over to a male worker and spoke to him and he came over to us.
By this time I was a bit upset so I said, rather snarkily to him,"We don't want to bother you if you have something more important to do" and the guy said "No,sorry,we will take care of you.",and brought menus.
The lady arrived back with some chips and sauce, apparently that, and seating people, are her only duties.
We ordered drinks and apps, and from that point forward the service improved significantly.
Not much else to report so here is my evaluation of the food that many rave about.
The quality was good, serving size adequate but not overwhelming, but here is where I felt the fare felt short. It was the taste,or more accurately the lack thereof, that will keep me from returning.
Back in the day I could consume foods that were lava hot, spice wise, but those days are gone.I now go for the more gut friendly "mild" versions but the food I ate here was really bland, even for my taste, and my family agreed with my assessment.
The provided salsa did not improve things,as it was rather plain tasting as well.
I want to stress that the food did not taste bad,but was rather, how should I put it,boring?Like I stated earlier,I was not seeking spicy as in heat, but just something that would kick up the flavor intensity a notch or two.Or three..
My advice is that the chef(s) there should consider developing some dishes that have more ingredients and also different sauces to overlay them with.

Oh,one last thing,we were brought free ice cream for dessert, that was a nice touch.I think that it is included with the meal as I noticed a few other tables getting the same treatment.

We eat here frequently, and everything we have had is delicious. Good portions at reasonable prices.
Very good and attentive service. Really nice Mexican atmosphere, cozy, and they make us feel right at home.
The food...wow. You get a lot of rice and beans with your meal. The meat is NOT over seasoned, which is great, since those capable of it, can put their own hot sauce on their food, allowing those of us who don't like everything hot/spicy, to enjoy our meals for a change!
We love this place....the best Mexican restaurant around.
Don't leave without trying their fabulous margaritas!! Enjoy!
